Glasgow City prepared for the visit of SK Brann in the UWCL by beating Spartans at Petershill Park.
Goals from Amy Muir, a Lauren Davidson penalty and a Brenna Lovera header secured the three points.
Leanne Ross made seven changes from the side that faced Celtic in midweek with Aoife Colvill making her first start since January 2022 after returning from injury.
The home side took the lead with only nine minutes on the clock in the first real opportunity of the game. Amy Muir drove at the Spartans defence before drilling the ball low into the bottom corner out of the reach of Rachael Johnstone.
City controlled the majority of the ball with Lauren Davidson having a close range effort saved by the Spartans goalkeeper before the visitors threatened with an Alana Marshall volley going over the crossbar.
Aoife Colvill went close to doubling City’s lead when she lifted the ball over Johnstone after the Spartans goalkeeper had rushed out her goal but Colvill’s lob bounced the wrong side of the left hand post.
Colvill went close again just before the break when her header from Lisa Forrest’s corner clipped the post.
The second goal came after the break when Lauren Davidson converted from the penalty spot after she was brought down. City’s top goalscorer netting her eighth of the season as she slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
Two became three just after the hour mark when half time substitute Brenna Lovera headed the ball into the back of the net after meeting Forrest’s corner.
Lovera nearly added a second for herself when she met Forrest’s corner again but this time the ball hit the crossbar.
City had a chance to make it four from the penalty spot when Emily Whelan was brought down but Kinga Kozak’s penalty was well saved by Johnstone.
Anna Oscarsson went close to a spectacular fourth for City but her long range effort hit the crossbar.
City are next in action in midweek when we welcome SK Brann to Petershill Park for the first leg in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2.
