City move five clear with win over Hibs

Glasgow City would move five points clear at the top of the Scottish Women's Premier League as two early goals helped them past Hibs at Petershill Park.

Goals from Kinga Kozak (7), Emily Whelan (21) would secure the win for City despite a late strike Siobhan Hunter (74).

Head coach Leanne Ross restored Anna Oscarsson, Mairead Fulton, Emily Whelan and Lee Gibson to the starting line up after they missed Sunday's victory over Partick Thistle.

Emily Whelan almost had City off to a fantastic start when her angled drive after 30 seconds had to be tipped around the post by Benni Haaland.

And City's fast start would pay off when Polish international Kozak picked up a loose ball and blasted superbly into the net with barely seven minutes on the clock.

Whelan almost made it two shortly after but found her close range shot blocked after a clever forward run from Oscarsson - she didn't have to wait much longer to get her goal though when expertly flicked Priscila Chinchilla's cross into the bottom corner to deservedly double the home side's lead.

A delightful Lauren Davidson cross for Whelan then almost saw City go three goals to the good but Haaland saved superbly at point blank range. The Republic of Ireland international would be at the forefront of the action again in the second half too as she continued to cause Hibs problems by striking the side netting.

Hibs would give City a scare in the 64th minute though when an audacious shot from Siobhan Hunter cannoned off the crossbar before Gibson was able to gather.

Chinchilla was the next to try her luck for City when she cleverly pinch the ball deep in the Hibs area but once again Haaland managed to block.

And Hibs would half the deficit back shortly afterwards Hunter managed to get her head to a good left wing cross and place home.

Strong running from Kozak would then present City with another chance but Hayley Lauder could only fire over the bar after she was fed by Chinchilla.

Hibs would ask questions of the home side as the seconds ticked down but were unable to find the late leveller as City made it two wins from two.
