Glasgow City midfielder Leanne Crichton played 90 minutes in Scotland’s disappointing 6-0 defeat to England in their tournament opener.
Crichton’s admirable energy in the midfield was unfortunately not enough for her Scottish side to get a result against tough English opposition.
Speaking on the defeat, Crichton explained: “I don’t think it’s necessarily what went wrong, England showed tonight why they are one of the favourites for the tournament and credit to them for doing that.
For us, it was a first game. Of course, it’s a new experience and we’ve all learnt from that pretty quickly.”
Crichton was the only City player to play the full match, with Joanne Love making a late cameo for Anna Signuel’s side.
“It was fantastic to get 90 minutes; the atmosphere was great. All the teams have been well hosted and to come and play in front of your friends and family who made the journey was fantastic. It makes a difference when you play on the big stage. We will learn from this match, it’s gone now.”
Although the England defeat was a decisive one, Scotland remain in good spirits heading into their next fixture against Portugal.
Crichton “I genuinely feel we are a really talented group. We are as fit as we’ve ever been so for us so the Portugal game is a big one.
England are one of the favourites for the tournament, realistically we weren’t expected to take points from that. We will head into the Portugal game strong and we are ready to right our wrongs.”
