City maintain their position at the top of the table after a frustrating afternoon at Stirling University. City had most of the possession in a game in which they created endless goal scoring opportunities. The ball touched the back of the Stirling net for the first time after 12 minutes when Cheryl McCulloch half volleyed the ball into goal but was deemed off side. A few moments later the first goal came, from a Fiona Brown cut back from the by-line to Denise O Sullivan who hit a low powerful strike into corner of the net. The second came 15 minutes later from another Fiona Brown cross. This time Kerry Montgomery met the ball to head it home neatly from the 6 yard box. (HT 0-2) The second half was as frustrating as the second with City keeping most of the possession and Stirling sitting deep in defence. On 60th minute Erin Cuthbertson was brought down and Leanne Ross missed the awarded penalty. Abbi Grant had only been on the field 5 minutes, after being substituted for Jo Love, when she scored from a fantastic 18 yard shot to make it 3-0 to City. On 80th minute the ball ended up in the back of the Stirling goal again, only to be ruled offside.
Eddie Black the Head Coach commented “We came here for 3 points and we have got that. We kept a clean sheet which is pleasing. Another pleasing aspect is that we created so many scoring opportunities although we could have been more clinical in front of goal. We didn’t work the goalkeeper enough as we put most shots directly at her. As it is this result maintains our lead at the top of the table.”
