Nine in a row beckons for Glasgow City

Glasgow City need just one point on Sunday to lift the Scottish Women’s Premier League title for the 9th successive season in a row and fans who bought a Champions League ticket v Chelsea midweek get in for free.

Despite bowing out of Europe at the hands of English Champions Chelsea last Wednesday, Glasgow City are gearing up to ensure a highly successful season if they can gain just one point against Aberdeen on Sunday at the Excelsior Stadium.

Currently 6 points ahead of second placed Hibernian with only two games remaining and a massive goal difference to their advantage it seems only a matter of time before Glasgow City are crowned Scotland’s best side for the 9th successive season, and arguably their toughest campaign to date.

Commenting, Club Manager and co-founder of Glasgow City, Laura Montgomery said, “Considering I was still playing when we started off this incredible title run, just shows how long it has been going. There have been so many special players and staff involved along our journey and it is a real credit to every single person at the club that we are on the brink of achieving this incredible landmark, which of course is already made famous through the previous achievements of Rangers and Celtic’s men’s teams.

“I would have to say that this has been our hardest season yet to win the title. Hibernian have pushed us all the way and for the first time in a very long time, we have had a real challenge all season long. If anything that has made it an even more enjoyable campaign for everyone at the club. The players have worked really hard to earn their victories and add in our domestic cup runs and European endeavors, I have to tip my hat to every single one of them.

“The title however is still not in our hands and we need to go out on Sunday and in front of our home fans, hopefully get the point we need. We had an incredible support behind us at the Chelsea game and any fan who brings their ticket from that match along on Sunday, will get in for free.”

Glasgow City v Aberdeen is a 2.30pm kick off this Sunday at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie. Holders of tickets for the Chelsea game can see the game for free, others are £5 adults, £3 concessions and under 16’s also go free.
