City lose out at Petershill

Glasgow City 0

Rangers 2
Hardy 43(p)’ 90+4

A Rio Hardy double gave Rangers victory at Petershill Park this afternoon.

Leanne Ross made three changes from last Friday with Abbie Larkin, Kinga Kozak and Charlotte Wardlaw all coming into the starting eleven.

Both sides knew the importance of this fixture and the first 45 was evident of that. There were very few chances for either side with a Hayley Lauder cross being cleared by Rangers before a Rachel Rowe effort blocked by the City backline.

There was to be a major talking point at the end of the first half when Rowe’s through ball was adjudged by referee Connor Ashwood to have been blocked by the arm of Anna Oscarsson and the visitors were awarded a penalty.

Rio Hardy found the bottom right corner despite Lee Gibson going the right way.

The second half saw more action immediately with Gibson making a couple of very good saves to deny a long range strike from Chelsea Cornet and a near post effort from Rachel McLauchlan.

Good defending from Meikayla Moore to stop Hardy’s header and Kenzie Weir who made a great challenge to deny Kirsty MacLean.

Rangers doubled their lead in stoppage time when Hardy scored after her initial effort had been well saved by Gibson but the ball fell back kindly into the path of the Rangers striker to score from close range.

City are next in action in midweek when we welcome Montrose to Petershill Park for our first meeting with The Gable Endies.
