City hit seven in Aberdeen

By Craig Edwards

Glasgow City moved back to the top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League table with a 7-0 victory away at Aberdeen.

Doubles from Jenna Clark, Kinga Kozak, Lauren Davidson and a curled finish from Priscila Chinchilla secured the points.

It had been two weeks since the sides last met when City secured a place in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup and it was City who had the first opportunity but Emily Whelan was unable to get her shot on target.

The home side threatened with a Bailey Collins effort blocked by Claire Walsh before Erin Clachers was forced into action to deny Bayley Hutchison after Aberdeen counter attacked from a City corner as the game went from end to end.

There was a goal coming and for City, it was for the visitors.

A Mairead Fulton corner found Clark coming in at the back post to volley the ball into the back of the net. That opening goal opened the floodgates and City doubled the lead five minutes later.

Whelan’s forward pass cut open the Aberdeen defence and allowed Davidson to get in behind before she squared the ball across the box to Kozak who calmly slotted the ball under Annalisa McCann.

Kozak got her second in as many minutes when Amy Muir blocked an Aberdeen clearance and the ball fell to the feet of Kozak who put the ball past the goalkeeper.

Lauren Davidson is the SWPL top goalscorer and she added to her impressive goal tally shortly before half time. Megan Foley’s cross was met by Miracle Porter and her header was then volleyed into the back of the net by Davidson.

Davidson got her second and City’s fifth in first half stoppage time when referee Joel Kennedy pointed to the penalty spot and Davidson calmly placed the ball into the bottom right corner.

City made a change at the break with Davidson being replaced by Chinchilla and the Costa Rican international got her name on the scoresheet. A lovely City move saw Linda Motlhalo play a ball through the middle of the Aberdeen defence for Chinchilla who curled the ball into the bottom corner.

The seventh came minutes later when Clark headed Fulton’s cross onto the crossbar and the ball bounced back onto Clark and into the net.

There was one last cheer for the visiting supporters as Jo Love made her return to the football pitch when she came on for the last 20 minutes as City secured all three points.

Glasgow City are back in action in midweek as we welcome Motherwell to Petershill Park.
